BridgeTO Hacks: Your Voice is Power
On Saturday, May 28th, 2022 from 9AM to 7PM, Amazon, TakingITGlobal and BridgeTO Youth invites you to “BridgeTO Hacks: Your Voice Is Power”, a full-day learning experience and coding competition! Participants will have the opportunity to engage in an inspiring and unique learning experience that will explore the fundamentals of computer science, entrepreneurship, and social justice. Students will hear from a roster of accomplished speakers, who will share their experiences and lessons to ultimately inspire our youth. Students will remix songs from Indigenous artists, based on what they will learn from instructors throughout the day, and get to compete against other students for amazing prizes and to qualify for ‘Your Voice is Power’ Scholarship!
TVO Workshop
Lights, camera, ACTION! Our students interested in journalism had the wonderful opportunity to spend a day at TVO where they got to learn and hear from those currently in the journalism industry, participated in an exciting case competition, and conducted on-site reporting and interviews with the public.
BMO Legal Mock Trial Event
The Youth attend a virtual event with BMO to learn about the Canadian Legal system and Contract Law. They prepared and participated in a mock trial with their peers, which was judged by a panel of special guests! Youth had the opportunity to practice persuasive public speaking, debating, thinking analytically along with showcasing their acting talents!
Career Workshop-A Human Library
Successful careers don't just happen on their own, they start with the help of the community! The career workshop was catered to our high students looking to explore their career options. Students had the chance to meet a variety of professionals from diverse fields, gain insights into the many career possibilities and strengthen their networking skills.
Roche
Roche Pharmaceuticals hosted its 3rd Annual STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) workshop which focused on exploring the possibilities of diverse careers in the health field. Our Youth engaged in a fun and lighthearted competition by engaging in activities that challenged their problem solving and team building skills.
Seeds of Leadership-Act to Lead
In partnership with Seeds of Leadership, our youth had the opportunity to volunteer at the Feed Scarborough soup kitchen by helping prepare and deliver meals to community centers and surrounding neighborhoods. Youth learned the importance of leadership and initiative as they made a real impact in the community through teamwork and collaboration.
Mental Health Kickoff- Mindfulness:
We know high school can be a challenging time. Each month, we provide a mental health workshop focusing on a specific topic relevant to Youth. We kicked off our first mental health event with a discussion on mindfulness where we learned various techniques to overcome anxiety and learned how to calm our minds in stressful situations.
Youth Kickoff
We started off the year with our annual youth kickoff, welcoming 76 students to our program. Our Youth learned about all the exciting BridgeTo initiatives and incentives, along with a warm welcome from the Youth team.We were all left energized, inspired and ready to start another year of wins and successes!
